1470120 Unfolding envelope closure flaps SPICERS Ltd 28 July 1975 [31 July 1974] 33755/74 Heading B5D [Also in Division B8] A device for unfolding envelope closure flaps 5<SP>1</SP> comprises a driven suction roller 1 which carries successive envelopes 5 under a cross-bar 10 so that the closure flaps 5<SP>1</SP> are engaged and unfolded by the cross-bar. The vacuum applied to the surface of the roller 1 is controlled so that it is interrupted as the envelopes are stripped from the roller 1 by bifurcated guide members 9 which engage circumferential grooves in the roller. The roller 1 includes a flat 13 which merges with a curved peripheral portion of the roller along one longitudinal edge and which is contiguous with a steps (14), Fig. 5 (not shown), along the opposite longitudinal edge. Rows of suction orifices 15 are provided in the flat and the curved peripheral portion adjacent said one longitudinal edge. The position of the cross-bar 10 about the axis of the roller 1 is adjustable. Stop bars 12 which are mounted at the end of a delivery table 3, assist in the removal of the envelopes from slotted discs 4. |
