<p>1392662 Internal resistance heating of wire TECHNOFIL SpA 5 Jan 1973 [10 Jan 1972] 723/73 Heading H5H [Also in Division C7] In the continuous annealing of metal wire by direct resistance heating the wire 12 is led over a series of pulleys 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 and 19 whereby it is led through an annealing chamber 22 located within preheating chamber, these being supplied with a protective atmosphere, and then through a succession of cooling chambers 30, 31. The voltages applied to pulleys 13, 15, 16 are such that over the run 13-15 the wire is preheated to 150-200‹ C. by a negative potential applied to pulley 13 and a positive potential applied to 15, and is then heated to the annealing temperature of 550‹ C.- 600‹ C. by a negative potential applied to pulley 16. After passing over insulated pulley 17 the wire may be dried by positive and negative potentials applied to pulleys 18 and 19 respectively. The pulley 16 may be cooled, and for this purpose comprises a disc 35 mounted on shaft 37 and having a peripheral ring 38 with V-groove 40 for the wire. The outer face of the disc has an annular groove 41 into which coolant is directed by nozzle 43 over cone 42.</p> |
