A member for attaching a strip- like handle to a can comprises a base portion (10) having a flange (11) bearing projections (15) by which it can be welded to the can, and an upstanding neck portion (12) provided at its outer end with a plurality of resilient tabs (14) forming a resilient head portion which can be deformed to be passed through a hole in a handle and then expanded to retain the handle.
