The feed trough (7) uses a flat belt (3) to automatically distribute fodder to the animals. The belt is wound onto a drum (1) mounted on a shaft (2) driven by a motor; drive is through a pawl, in one direction only. The free end of the belt is attached to a cable (6), passing over pulleys and attached to a winding reel (5) on the same shaft as the belt. Another pawl permits driving opposite to the belt. In one direction the cable pulls the belt off the drum, which free-wheels. In the other direction the belt is wound onto the drum, the reel freewheeling.
