<p>Parent patent described improvements to a machine for making a filter material with a structured surface with pleats, ribbing and facets, from a thin sheet. The machine incorporates a feed roller, two stamping rollers, and a guide-way of progressively changing section. The improvement now described is a better way of joining the end of a new roll of material to the end of a roll that has left the feed roller. It incorporates a joining station between the feed roller and the stamping rollers. In this station the rear end of the used band and the front end of a new band can be superposed. It incorporates a table with a slot inclined to the transverse direction and a blade which can enter the slot and cut the two ends of the bands. The superposed ends are cut at this angle and the juxtaposed edges are joined together by adhesive strip on their upper surfaces. Cutting and joining the ends at an angle prevents the difficulties which arise with the existing method in which they are joined rectilinearly. These difficulties are overlapping and creasing causing blockage in the guide-way. They are prevented because the obliquity of the connection causes the different parts of the machine to take up the connection progressively, not in a single move as in the case of a transverse join.</p> |
