<p>1500099 Laminated glass ASAHI GLASS CO Ltd 12 Aug 1976 [9 Sept 1975 25 Dec 1975] 33633/76 Heading B5N A laminated glass windshield comprises two sheets of glass bonded with an interposed plastics layer, e.g. polyvinyl butyral or polyurethane, each of the glass sheets having a thickness of 1À5 to 2À5 mm. and having a plane compressive stress of 200 to 500 kg./cm.<SP>2</SP> at the peripheral part of at least the outer surfaces thereof. The windshield may be made by simultaneously shaping two sheets of plied glass by heating them on a bonding mould at 550‹ to 650‹ C., quenching the peripheral parts of the plied glass sheets, at a quenching rate of 85‹ to 160‹ C. per minute, to a temperature of from 450‹ to 550‹ C. so as to impart a plane compressive stress at the peripheral part of the glass sheets; arranging the glass sheets with an interposed plastics layer therebetween, with their peripheral surfaces having the plane compressive stresses facing the outside; and bonding the resultant assembly by heat-pressing. Quenching may be effected by air. In an alternative procedure, a glass sheet has the plane compressive stress imparted thereto by placing it on a gas bed of a gas furnace and heated to 550‹ to 650‹ C., moved on to a bending mould and shaped by sucking it on to the surface of the mould.</p> |
