Two carpets are made together; the pile threads are zig-zagged between two pieces of adhesive-coated backing material, which moves forward intermittently. A row of pile threads the full width of the carpet is pushed into place by a wire: the threads fold round the wire, the ends on the still-unfixed side being steadied meanwhile by a second similar wire. The wires then exchange roles, for a row of threads to be added to the second carpet, and so on. The wires are mounted similarly on each side of the width of the carpet; a drive which moves their ends intermittently in concentric circles is converted into the movement needed for zig-zagging the threads, by a rectangular window through which the wires pass.
|
