Expansion joint for concrete road surface - has expanding anchor bolts in joint shoulder clamping rubber sheet and successive plates

The expansion joint for road surfaces uses recessed shoulders formed in the concrete at the meeting point between adjacent surfaces. Vertical holes are formed in the shoulders and carry vertical anchoring bolts (18). The bolts are expanded by screws (36) and a rubber sheet (22) forms the waterproof joint. The sheet is held in place by a horizontal plate (24) with a vertical lip resting in the shoulder. A further plate (30) is clamped by screws to the anchoring bolts and is covered by an elastic pad (28). The pad is finally covered by a steel top plate (26) which forms continuity of wearing surface to the road.
