Therapeutic destruction of concretions by impulse laser - uses elliptical focussing chamber with shock waves produced at focal point

The device for contactless destruction of concretions comprises a rotationally elliptical focussing chamber (6) in which shock waves are produced at a focal point (f1) and focused onto the concretion which is located at a second focal point (f2). Outside the focussing chamber is a giant impulse laser (2) whose beam (4) is widened, and in the wall (18) of the focussing chamber is a lens system (22) which converges the widened laser beam at the first focal point. Pref. a beam splitter splits the beam into two or more partial beams, and in the wall of the focussing chamber are two or more light-transmitting windows with focussing lens systems which focus the beams at the first focal point. At the first focal point may be a positionable pin (40), and near this point may be an injection nozzle which produces a zone of different light absorption in the liquid (8)-filled cavity of the focussing chamber at the first focal point.
