Feedstuffs for ruminants contain usual fodder ingredients and a growth-promoting additives comprising one or more esters of formula (I): (where R is alkyl; R1 is alkyl, alkoxy, alkylthio, a lkoxyalkoxy pheny, phenoxy, alkenyloxy, phenyl, phenoxy, alkenyloxy, (lower halow)-alkenyloxy or dialkylamino; R2 is H, lower halogen, alkyl or alkoxycarbonyl; R3 is lower halogen, thiocyanato, alkylthio, phenylthio, benzylthio or (lower halogen)-phenylthio; and R4 is (lower halo)-thienyl, (lower halo)-cyclohexyl, naphthyl, 3-(lower halo)phenyl, 4-(lower-halo)-phenyl, 3-/tri(lower halo)methyl/-phenyl, 4-(lower halor or nitro)-2-(bromo- or chloro)phenyl, 2-(chloro or bromo)-4-(lower halo)-5-chlorophenyl or 2,3,4-trichlorophenyl; lower halo being Cl, Br or F), e.g. dimethyl 2-chloro-1-(2,4,5-trichlorophenyl)-vinyl phosphate. (I) promote teh growth of growing ruminants and improve meat quality. Addn. of (I) to the fodder of ruminants leads to better weight gains and/or better feed-efficiency than is observed in control animals to which (I) has not been administered. |
