Dressing can be used as a gypsum plaster substitute when treating fractures and sprains, wounds and inflamed areas in fixing limbs. Quick fixing of limbs can be achieved in the absence of water and/or at 0 degree C. Dressing can be applied by unqualified people. Dressings are comfortable in use, have high flexural strength and weigh less than plaster casts, e.g a forearm dressing of 100-120 g can replace a 590-600 g plaster cast. Required strength is achieved quickly e.g in a few min. c.f. a few hrs. for plaster casts. In an example, 125 g isocyanate "Uropol HD" (RTM) were mixed with 5g SiO2. 125 g polyol "Uropol DP 327 or 325" (RTM) were mixed with 3.75 g SiO2. Components were left to stand >24 hrs. in closed containers, before use in forming a sandwich structure between 2 flexible polyurethane sheets.
