1469365 Tool changers TOYODA-KOKI KK 26 Feb 1975 [26 Feb 1974] 8144/75 Heading B3B [Also in Division F2] A machine tool having a tool storage magazine 12 storing a plurality of radially arranged tools in a horizontal plane and indexable to present a tool T at a change position P, a tool change arm 15, and a spindle 11 for receiving a tool T, is characterized by the provision 1 of pair of guard covers 18, 19 arranged between the tool change position P and the spindle 11 which are pivotable in a horizontal plane by an hydraulic actuator between an open position to permit a tool change operation, and a closed position to catch a tool if one should accidentally fall from the magazine, and thereby prevent damage at the machining station and protect the machine operator. The hydraulic actuator is connected by means of a pin with slots in one end of each of the guard covers 18, 19, the other end of each of the covers overlying each other in the closed position. A notch is cut in the guard cover profile to provide room for the rotation of the arm 15 with tools T clamped between fingers 13, 14. A guard cover may be provided all around the magazine 12, except at the change position P, to catch any tools which accidentally fall. |
