PURPOSE:To obtain dry gel having a large number of uniform and relatively large pores, by adding a specified amount of triethoxymethylsilane to a starting material composition contg. a metallic alkoxide as a principal component. CONSTITUTION:A starting material composition is prepared by adding triethoxymethylsilane to a starting material mixture consisting of a metallic alkoxide such as silicon tetraalkoxide, water, alcohol and hydrochloric acid by 0.01- 90mol% of the amount of the silicon tetraalkoxide. The composition is hydrolyzed and polymerized by a conventional sol-gel method to obtain dry gel, and quartz glass is obtd. by calcining the gel. |
