PROCESS FOR THE SEPARATION OF C8 AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS FROM THEIR MIXTURES

Metha-xylene is sepd. from a mixt. of aromatic C8 hydrocarbons by initially saturating a zeolite Y adsorption bed with vapors of a desorbent; passing the mixt. through the kexchanged adsorption bed at a spacial velocity of 30-500 per hr. and 1.2 atmos. to displace the desorbent. The adsorption bed is kept at 145-250≦̸C to saturate the bed with the mixt. The process further comprises collecting and removing (a) a first fraction of n-xylene plus desorbent and (b) an second fraction of a mixt. of x-xylene, desorbent and an aromatic C8 hydrocarbon isomer having an affinity to the bed second only xylene plus desorbent to the adsorption bed.
