A control signal is derived from the pilot level difference, by which the gain is adjusted so as to reduce the level difference to a small residual value. The control element (CE) is used to regulate the control stage (ST1) and a stage (ST2) following it in order to compensate the residual difference. The signal entering the system (1) passes to the first control stage (ST1) which is connected directly to the second control stage (ST2). The mid-point between the control stages is connected to a bandpass filter (4) connected to an amplifier (5) and a rectifier (6). This feeds into the + terminal of a comparator which outputs to the control element (CE).
