PURPOSE:To perform recording at a high speed with high sensitivity and to obtain a high C/N ratio by forming a compound containing at least antimony, an element of the Group IVB and sulfur on a substrate as a recording film. CONSTITUTION:The optical data recording medium is obtained by forming a compound containing at least antimony, an element of the Group IVB and sulfur on a substrate as a recording film. In the simplest constitution, a recording layer 2 may be formed on the substrate 1 but, if necessary, an undercoat layer 4 may be formed between the substrate 1 and the recording layer 2 and a protective layer 3 may be formed on the recording layer 2. As the material of the substrate 1, a transparent plastic substrate or a glass substrate is used. The aforementioned compound is represented by SbxMySz(wherein M is one element selected from the elements of the Group IVB, x, y and z are 0.5<=x<1, 0<y<=0.5, 0<z<=0.5 and x+y+z=1). |
