The linear propulsion vehicle (1) is fitted with front and rear swivel bogeys (4) which guide the vehicle along lateral guide rails by magnetic guidance. The linear motor has its coils (7) suspended from the sprung vehicle on transverse rails (9) to straddle the centre drive rail (8). The coils are linked to the bogeys by telescopic struts (10). As the vehicle drives through curves the coils are displaced accordingly to provide optimum traction. The main weight of the drive unit is thus supported on the sprung chassis for optimum damping. On cornering the coils are displaced to generate a lateral thrust component for a stable drive.
