Drafting and opening fibre sliver in two stages - with drafting and opening rolls combined in single machine

Fibre slivers are drafted by passage through a drafting roll assembly where the silver is attempted and the fibres aligned, and then opened by passage through an assembly of e.g. roller combs as described in the parent patent. The opening roll assembly forms an extension of the drafting roll assembly so that the two operations are carried out on a single machine. The silver passing from the opening roll assembly is coiled into a can. The device is used for treating cotton slivers. The device is easily adjusted (e.g. roller separation) to correctly process the sliver without damaging the fibres.
