Cooling surfaces for water stripping cells and electrolyte coolers of electrochemical cells, esp. fuel cells and fuel batteries, consist of metal screens (1) impregnated with casting resin (II). (I) pref are meshes in which the filaments are at an angle of ca. 50 gon (45 degrees) to the cooling surface boundary, Ni being the pref. metal. These cooling surfaces have the required combination of good mechanical strength and chemical stability, have good bonding properties and are dimensionally stable. They are also gas tight and have satisfactory thermal conductivity. In an example the cooling surface consisted of a Ni mesh impregnated twice with an alkali-resistant casting resin. |
