<p>1471467 Preventing unauthorized use of vehicles D ARMAN 7 June 1974 25320/74 Heading B7J [Also in Divisions E1-E2 and H1] A vehicle steering lock comprises a slidable locking latch 26 adapted to engage a recess D in a steering column C and may be combined with an electrical ignition switch (accommodated at E, Fig. 4, but shown separately on Fig. 19 merely for convenience), rotation of a key 40 in a recess therefor in a lock cylinder 39 causing longitudinal locking or unlocking movement of the latch 26 and simultaneous rotation of a rotor 54 within the switch, the rotor 54 being fast with a bush 47 carried by a shaft 46 which is fixed to the cylinder 39 for rotation therewith. The cylinder 39 carries a collar 37 defining a cam which acts on a follower projection 36 of the latch 26, the latch also having a stop projection 35 co-operating with a cylindrical member 42 which is also acted on by a spring- biased slidable plate 43 and a pivoted lever 31 of which end 31a protrudes into the recess for the key 40. On retraction of latch 26, lever 31 and projection 35 force member 42 upwards and into a recess 31d of lever 31, after which spring 45 acting on plate 43 pushes member 42 back into its original position in which it prevents return of the projection 35 to thus hold the latch 26 in its retracted position, Fig. 5 (not shown), in which it is also retained by engagement of an eccentric 46b beneath the end of the latch. A torsion spring 41 surrounding the cylinder 39 causes return thereof from a "Start" position to a "Run" position after ignition has been effected via basculating contacts 64 in the switch which connect fixed contacts 59 &c. The contacts 64 are rockably carried intermediate their ends by a cylindrical body 53 which can slide but not rotate within stator 52 and are acted on by springs 65 and radial pushers 66 which extend through member 53 into contact with grooves 54b in the rotor 54.</p> |
