Drum filter with cake former - having lattice band around drum with pronged drum to discharge cake segments

Drum fitler for filtering slurries and producing shaped pieces from the filter cake consists of a rotating drum partly immersed in the slurry having a lattice formed band contacting it in the suction region. The cake forms in the spaces of the lattice and is taken away by the band. The band is run around a roller and on the lower run between the drum and the roller is a pronged roller to discharge the cake from the lattice. The prongs are of the same shape and pattern as the lattice having a height which is slightly less than the depth of the lattice. The surface of the roller is made from elasticated material such as plastic foam which presses into the lattice slightly as it passes over. Esp. for use in filtering iron ore, the cake briquettes so formed being subsequently sintered. In existing equipment, the briquettes fall into a chute where they can be damaged, causing fires which must then be recovered from the sintering process. The system described gives a simple means of releasing the briquettes from the lattice and transporting them away without damage.
