Method for burning emulsified oils, the emulsion contg. oil and water in a vol. ratio of 5-9.5:5-0.5, the technique comprising a two stage combustion using 30-105 (pref. 40-90) vol. % primary air, 15-200 (pref. 25-100) vol. % secondary air and 100-300 (pref. 110-190) vol. % total air (based on the theoretically required amt.). Pref. exhaust gas recirculation is employed, in amts. of 10-40 (pref. 15-30) vol. % optinally, up to 10 (pref. 0.01-3) vol. % of the water may be replaced by at least one 1-3 C aliphatic alcohol, and the emulsion also contains 0.01-5 vol. % of a surfactant. Used with oils liquid at room temp. and immiscible with water, such as hydrocarbon fuels, aromatics, lubricating oils and other mineral oils, animal and vegetable oils, etc.
