Filtration of dust-laden gases - improved by agglomeration of dust using added secondary dust

The sec. dust is fed into the gas to be filtered in a comparatively constructed zone of high turbulence. The dust deposited on the filtration surfaces is removed by shaking or compressed air shocks to leave a thin layer of dust. The dust removed is collected in a vessel and removed for further use or fed back into the gas to be filtered. Used e.g. in filtration of gases from aluminium smelting to remove fluorine-contg. dust. Effective agglomeration is achieved in a small stretch of inlet duct to the filter.
