The use of cpds. of formula (I) as insecticides is new (where R is Ph opt. substd. 1-3 times by halogen or a 4-nitrophenyl or 3-trifluoromethylphenyl gp.). Insecticidal compsns. contg. (I) as active agent are also claimed. (I) are esp. used against plant parasitic (esp. ectoparasitic) insects, partic. in cotton or vegetable cultivation. (I) are partic. active against Coleoptera spp., e.g. Leptinotarsa decemlineata and Anthomonus grandis. and ectoparasites such as Lucila sericata, as well as the house fly, Aedes aegypti and Sitophilus granarius. A typical pref. cpd. is 3-N-(4-chlorophenyl)carbamoyl-4-hydroxy coumarin.
