The device is for setting up the stamping letters etc. on an automatic stamping machine for use in identification of alloys or rolled metal products. It has a series of stamping wheels with engraved or embossed ciphers on their peripheries. The wheels are in the form of ratchets, with locking pawls operated by pneumatic cylinders to lock the stamping wheels in the desired positions. The spring-loaded locking element of the system consists of a sensor pin which activates the control switch (14). The stamping wheel rotations are controlled by a set of electromagnetic valves in the pneumatic circuit.
