A method of cleaning channels for waste liquids includes those only partially filled such as waste water drains of large cross section. The method uses the liquid flow and involves the fitting of a flow resistance element introduced into the drain liquid flow and moving along the drain channel at a lesser speed than the average flow speed of the liquid. The introduction of the flow resistance element produces a change in the direction of the liquid flow with a partial retention of the liquid. The method also provides for the introduction of several flow resistance elements (2) either simultaneously or at short time intervals into the liquid flow.
