The braking component of a ski brake consists of a coiled spring (3) of either round or rectangular cross section. The spring coils are either cylindrical, tapered or looped to form a ring. The brake component encounters a maximum amount of surface area when it is contact with snow or ice, hence friction is greater then. An axial rod (1) is anchored inside the spring coil (3), and is attached to the ski brake mechanism which is part of the ski binding. To provide added protection for the brake spring, the coil wire can be clad in a plastic sheath, or the whole coil can be covered with a plastic sleeve.
|
