The curler is electrically operated and has a heating element made of a semiconductor material. The heating element is fitted with a heat accumulating head, which is constantly heated to a temp. suitable for steaming. The head is fitted to the cylindrical part containing the heating element. The cylindrical part is fitted slidably within the tubular curler body. Part of the inside surface of the curler body has a heat insulating sheathing. The position of the heat transmitting part of the heating element in relation to the coincidence with the insulating sheathing is a measure of the heat flow transmitted to the hair. The heating element contains barium titanate.
