The acid resin produced as residue by the refining of mineral oil with conc. or fuming H2SO4 can be turned into an innocuous product. The resin is mixed continuously with an alkaline hydroxide. The mixt. is exposed to a temp. of 60-130 degrees (60-80 degrees C) and a pressure between 20 and 60 atm. for 1 to 3 min. This process is suitable for much larger throughputs than by combustion or by recovery of the sulphur cpds. The large costs for special dumps are saved and the process itself is not costly. The end prod. can be dumped at any ordinary waste tips. |
