1468636 Winding wires in slots ESSEX INTERNATIONAL Inc 21 March 1975 [28 May 1974] 11900/75 Heading B3A Apparatus for placing magnet wire in slots 16-1, 16-2, Fig. 1, respectively defined by a cylindrical array of blades 12 of a coil insertion apparatus to form a circular dynamo-electric machine field winding comprises means 26 for guiding the wire 34 towards the blades, means 40, 42 for pushing the wire through the guiding means, and means 76, Fig. 2, for moving the guiding means relative to the blades in a circular path 48 which overlaps the cylindrical array of blades and is aligned with the open ends of two of the slots. In an embodiment, the blades 12 are mounted on a base plate 52 and are indexable about an axis 54 by a motor 56. A gun 32 comprising an elongated, curved tube 72 is secured to a spindle 62 which is rotatable about an axis 28 as wire 34 is pushed through a tube 74. An annular confining member 78 having a frusto-conical inner surface 80 coaxially surrounds the wire dispensing end 36 of the tube 72. The member 78 is movable between upper and lower positions and thus controls the diameter of the circular path of the wire 46 emitting from the tube, Fig. 3 (not shown), Slots 90 in the member 78 permit movement of the member by receiving distal ends 18 of the blades 12. Following the placing of one set of concentric coils on the blades in slots 16-1, 16-2, the blades may be indexed to another rotational position for placement of another set of coils in further slots (16-3), (16-4). |
