Tool set for the cold upsetting of crude metal blanks, esp. steel, using a punch and a die which is split transversely, i.e. across its longitudinal axis. The die parts are clamped against each other in both the axial and radial directions, the radial clamping being achieved by conical pressure or shrink fits. The novelty is that the radially prestressed die parts are located in a pot-shaped housing so that axial prestressing is also achieved. The die part remote from the base of the housing pref. has a conical outer dia. and is pressed into the housing by a clamping ring with a conical bore. The application of radial and axial compressive stresses to the die which prevents tensile stresses arising in service from bursting and cracking the die. |
