摘要 1468591 Electrode containing nickel or iron as conducting material DEUTSCHE AUTOMOBIL GmbH 28 May 1974 [1 June 1973] 23638/74 Heading H1B [Also in Division C7] An electrode comprises either an active mass or an electro-catalyst, an organic binding agent and a conductive substance, wherein the conductive substance consists of a voluminous material obtained by thermal decomposition of nickel carbonyl and/or iron carbonyl in the presence of an unpreheated inert gas. The nickel or iron conductive substance comprises a masslike structure of felted crystals grown on to one another in the form of threads. In one example for making a nickel hydroxide electrode, nickel tetracarbonyl was evaporated by heating to 70‹ C. and the resulting vapour was mixed with unheated nitrogen in a volume ratio 1 : 20. The gas mixture was supplied to a quartz tube heated at 400‹ C. when the carbonyl was thermally decomposed and the moss-like voluminous nickel material was formed on the tube walls. This material was removed from the tube and disintegrated in a knife mill and mixed with Ni(OH) 2 and polyisobutylene, the pulverous mixture being pressed on to a nickel screen serving as a current collector. In another example for making an air electrode, nickel made as in the previous example was mixed with manganese oxide catalyst and PTFE and the mixture pressed on to a nickel screen. One side of the electrode was then made hydrophobic by coating with PTFE, the PTFE afterwards being sintered. In a further example for making an iron electrode, iron pentacarbonyl was vaporized and mixed with unheated argon in a volume ratio 1 : 25, the mixture being supplied to a quartz tube heated at 450‹ C. After the thermal decomposition the voluminous iron product was tempered at 500‹ C. in an argon atmosphere and disintegrated. The iron conductive substance was mixed with magnetite and polystyrene and the mixture dissolved in benzene was pasted on to a sheet of iron wire fleece serving as current collector. Finally, the benzine was evaporated and the electrode was compressed. When making a conductive substance for an iron electrode, a mixture of iron carbonyl and nickel carbonyl may be used; moreover, the active mass in the iron electrode may be Fe 3 O 4 . In another example the active mass is cobalt.
