1468675 Coated sheet material IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 12 Sept 1974 [25 Sept 1973] 44824/73 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A polymer film is coated with a liquid coating-composition comprising a liquid diluent, epoxy resin precursors (E), being a polyether comprising epoxy groups and a crosslinking agent therefor, and a metal "phosphate", comprising ions of "phosphate" and metal(s) (M), the term "phosphate" including ortho-, meta-, and pyrophosphate, phosphinate, and phosphonate, and (M) having atomic number 12-14, 20-32, 39-50, 56-80, or 90-92, e.g. Al, Fe, Cr, Ti, and/or V, e.g. (Fe+Ti). The composition may be a solution. Acid anions (A) other than "phosphate" may also be present, e.g. halide, sulphate, nitrate, perchlorate, acetate, benzoate, propionate, or formate. (A) may be present in the metal "phosphate" or added as an acid to the diluent. There may be 0.2-10% wt (M) in the composition. There may be 1-90% wt (E) based on (E+M). The diluent may be water, alcohol, ester, ketone, aldehyde, ether, or nitro-compound. The polyether may be silicone-modified. The polymer film may be of polyethylene terephthalate. The coating may be cured by heating at 70-130‹C. The coating may be 0.01-3Ám thick, and may carry a polymer top coating, e.g. 0.5-30Ám thick, which may be heat-sealable, e.g. vinylide chloride polymer. Between the layers may be an anchor coating. Specification 1406419 is referred to. |
