1469134 Spray guns I FARNSTEINER 18 July 1974 [1 Feb 1974] 31968/74 Heading B2F An automatic painting gun comprises a spray head 1 having an air outlet and a paint outlet, a paint inlet 3, an elongated needle 4, a control air inlet 7, a spraying air inlet 21, a cylinder 16 containing a piston 6 mounted on a shaft 11 in engagement with the needle 4 and movable in one direction by the control air pressure to open said paint outlet and said spraying air inlet, a restoring spring 15 acting on the piston to move it in the opposite direction, a nozzle 22 injecting spraying air into a Venturi tube 24 having an inlet 28 for atmospheric air, so as to lower the pressure of the spraying air. A spring 14 acts on a plug 12 attached to needle 4 to maintain its engagement with shaft 11, and a spring 17 and a knurled button 18 enables the traverse of the needle 4 to be regulated. Rings 19, 20 enable the head 1 of the gun to be moved axially to produce a wider or narrower spray and coarser or finer atomisation. Leakage of compressed air from inlet 21 into the cylinder (8), Fig. 2 (not shown), is prevented by the plug 12 and an O-ring (11a) which engages the shaft 11. |
