The charges in strands are intended especially to be used as propulsive acceleration charges for a self-propelled vehicle. The charge comprises a fastening sole plate and strands of powder or of propergol arranged parallel to one another in several concentric layers. In order to obtain a high gas flow rate without causing the rupture of the strands especially at the moment of igniting and without disturbing the flow of these gases, the layers of strands are separated from the neighbouring layers by rigid cylindrical hoops which are securely fastened to the sole plate fastening the charge. <IMAGE>
