Novel 2-substituted-5,6-dimethoxyindazoles of the formula: <IMAGE> where R is cyclohexyl, phenethyl, phenyl, dimethylamino, aminoalkyl, methoxyethyl, indazolylethyl, tetrahydropyranylmethyl, p-dimethylaminophenyl, 2-hydroxyethyl, allyl, thiazolyl, pyridyl, 2,3-dihydroxypropyl, and hydroxy are useful as central nervous system depressants or hypotensive agents.
