(N,N')-Bis aminoalkanoyl (2,6)-diamino-anthraquinone - with antiprotozoal and antiviral activity

New derivs. are of formula (I): (where R1 is H or Me; R2 and R3 are both H or both Me, or R2 is H and R3 is 1-4C alkyl). (I) and their acid addn. salts have antiprotozoal activity and can be used to treat amoebic infestations (e.g. due to Entamoeba histolytica) in humans and animals. They also have interferon-inducing activity and are thus active against viruses, esp. influenza and encephalomyocarditis viruses. A typical cpd. is 2,6-bis(dimethylaminoacetylamino)-anthraquinone, prepd. e.g. by reacting 2,6-bis (chloroacetylamino)-anthraquinone with MeNH.
