A single-unit translucent plate is used as light distributor in conjunction with a liquid crystal display. The translucent plate is fixed to the rear of the liquid crystal cell and the surface facing the liquid crystal cell is roughened. The plate (1) has a thickened narrow side (12) in which the light source (2) is arranged in a cub-out (13). The surface (4) not facing the liquid crystal cell (3) is smooth and provided with a diffuse reflector (5) with texture or roughened and with a reflecting reflector (5). Part of the surfaces surrounding the light source (2) is covered with a diffuse reflecting, non-metallic coating.
