PURPOSE:To eliminate the need to visually judge the internal state of a control rod and to standardize nondestructive inspection by moving long-sized metal foil automatically, photographing visible light obtained by converting a radiation distribution continuously by an optical converter and then converting the light into an electric signal, and processing the signal automatically by an electronic computer. CONSTITUTION:The metal foil 26 which becomes a radioactive material by reacting on neutrons is stuck on one side of the control rod and a neutron ray is emitted by a neutron source through the control rod. Consequently, the neutron ray passes through a region where a neutron absorber disappears and the metal foil 26 is made radioactive and exposed to radioactivity. The neutron ray is absorbed in a region where the neutron absorber is charged and does not rear the metal foil 26, which is therefore not exposed. Further, the optical converter 1 emits light in the radioactive area of the metal foil, but does not emit any light in the nonradioactive region. The image of this optical converter 1 is photographed by the television camera 2 and converted into a video signal. Then the signal is recorded in an image memory incorporated in an electronic computer and processed automatically, and the result is displayed on a CRT 6 while the CRT screen can be copied. |
