The lumbar support is carried on springs (6) or arms, on cross bars movable in the rectangular frame that forms the seat back. The rods can be moved closer together or further apart, thus moving the back rest forward or back; and they can be moved up or down as one, carrying the back rest with them. The adjustable rods are moved towards or away from each other by a double-ended screw with opposite-handed threads. They are moved both up or both down by a second screw connecting one of them to a stop fixed to the rectangular frame. The screws that adjust the back rest terminate in flexible cables, with knobs at the far ends that are brought within reach of the person sitting in the seat.
