Transfer printing tufted carpets - using porous foil coated with sublimable pigments, and hot air to deposit pigments on tufts and/or backing

The process comprises overlapping the tufts or backing with a porous transfer foil carrying a printed pattern layer in sublimable inks, and passing hot air stream through the foil in the direction of the carpet. The foil may be in contact with or spaced from the carpet. A pattern with controlled outlines may be produced. Pref. the air is passed through the carpet at 3.3-40 Nm3/mm/m2 for 0.5-50 min. at 149-232 degrees C. Sharp images are obtd. when the foil is in direct contact with the carpet and diffused images are obtd. with the foil spaced 2.5cm. from the carpet. Diffused images are also obtd. with the foil in contact with the backing.
