Thrust bearing for marine propeller shaft - with inspection cover and simple cable loop to locate bearing elements

The marine propeller shaft has a thrust bearing with a number of bearing elements (4) guided in a groove (10) around the bearing housing. The separate elements are joined by a cable loop fed through grooves in each element. The top of the housing has an inspection cover through which periodic checks are made. The groove is open under the inspection cover, with the element immediately below the cover located by a profiled plate fitted to the underside of the cover. No complex and expensive cage is required for the elements.
