Remote controlled gear changer - has spring loaded sliding spur gears to ensure rapid gear teeth engagement

A remote controled gear has pairs of spur gears (23-26) which are brought in mesh by relative axial movement. A screw spindle, operated by an electric drive motor produces the axial movement that is required for a gear change. The operating fork (2) applies its linear motion through two sets of compression springs (5). The spring loaded axially sliding gear wheel will thus become engaged with the opposite spur gear at a very high speed. This rapid gear engagement protects the gear teeth, since in some cases a torque is transmitted as soon as the gear wheels start to be in mesh.
