Dyes of (1)-alkylamino-(4)-hydroxy-anthraquinone series - contg. a sulphonic acid gp., for use on polyamide fibres

New anthraquinone dyes have formula: (in which R is sec. alkyl or cycloalkyl; one Y1 is H and the other is SO3H). Used for dyeing or printing of wool, silk, leather and synthetic polyamides in violet shades. Also as intermediates for other dyes e.g. by alkylating or acylating the OH gp. Good levelling properties and general fastness esp. of light are obtd. In an example, a mixt. of K salts of 1-isopropylamino 4-brom anthraquinone 6- and 7-sulphonic acids is heated in water with NaHCO3 in presence of Cu and CuCl, to replace the Br by OH.
