The compsn. contains >=75% bitumen with softening pt. of >=70 degrees C, 1-5% natural or synthetic rubber, and low density fillers. The compsns. give thermal insulation and corrosion protection to steel pipes, It resists deformation at high temps and cracking due to cold or thermal stresses. Pipes can be precoated in the factory, the jacket being flexible enough to withstand bending during transport or installation.
