The recording layer may be applied to a substrate, e.g. plastics film, metal, metal film or powder treated paper or carbon treated conductive paper. A recording sheet may comprise a recording layer 1, a conductive layer 2 and a substrate 3 or simply a recording layer 1 and a substrate 3. A conductive layer 5 may be prepared by removing the colour forming agent to colour forming layer 6. Stimulation by electric current from power source 4 via electrode 8 and stylus 7. Other suitable stimuli include an electron beam, an ion beam, a laser or an infrared beam.
