A clamping device for the firm clamping of a linearly movable rod (12) in a specific position possesses two clamping portions (15, 16) adjustable relative to one another by means of an adjusting device (26). The rod (12) passes through the two clamping portions, and the resilient connection (18) is located on one side of the rod, whereas the adjustable device (24, 26, 29) is arranged on the other side of the mid-axis of the rod (12). By means of the adjusting device (26, 24, 29) designed as a piston/cylinder device, the two clamping portions (15, 16) are spread open relative to one another, so that the piston rod (12) can move to and fro freely in the two bores of the clamping portions (15, 16). In the event of a pressure drop in the piston/cylinder device (24, 26, 29), the spring force of the resilient connection (18) presses the two clamping parts (15, 16) towards one another again and the clamping portion (16) is thereby clamped against the outer face of the piston rod (12). The invention is used for particular preference as a safety clamping device for the firm clamping of the piston rod of a piston/cylinder arrangement in a specific position in the event of a pressure drop in the hydraulic system. <IMAGE>
