摘要 1467950 Thermal insulation JOHNS-MANVILLE CORP 13 May 1975 [13 May 1974] 20002/75 Headings F2P and F2X A thermally insulating reflective metallic structure for surrounding a pipe or for covering a flat or curved surface comprises two sections each comprising an inner plate and an outer plate having a plurality of reflective sheets therebetween separated from one another by spacers, each of the sheets and the plates bearing slidably on the inner or outer surfaces of a respective corresponding sheet or plate of the other section such that sequential pairs of sheets locate between sequential pairs of sheets in the other section enabling the structure to be telescopically extensible. In a preferred embodiment of insulating pipe covering the reflective sheets 22 are separated by cone shaped projections or stand-offs 24 and the male and female sections 32 and 30 respectively are prevented from accidentally coming apart by the location of one or more radially extending bolts 50 passing through slots 64 and 66 in sheets 22 and being anchored at the inner and outer plates. The outer plate comprises two overlapping substantially semicylindrical halves and the insulation is closed off at its end by arcuate end plates. Typical materials used for the reflective sheets are steel, stainless steel, titanium or aluminium. When used to insulate a hot flat surface 4<SP>1</SP> (Fig. 1b the structure comprises reflective sheets 22 enclosed by a top plate 18 and a bottom plate 20 and secured by bolts analogously to the arrangement for pipe insulation. The structure is also enclosed by rigid sidewalls 16 and the spacing of the sheets 22 is ensured by flange 26 and strap 28 acting analogously to end plates 10 and 12 of the pipe insulating structure.
