<p>1399017 Intra-uterine devices S SOICHET 28 Sept 1972 [20 Oct 1971] 44744/72 Heading A5R A contraceptive device for insertion into the uterus comprises a Y-shaped member 10 having a backbone 16 made from a resilient metal each arm of which terminates in an outwardly directed loop and which is enclosed in a covering of synthetic rubber to which a flexible extension 26 is connected, and a web member 24 extending between the arms from a position intermediate the ends of the arms to the vertex between the arms. The covering defines beads 28 at the ends of the arms and the extension 26 is integrally formed with the covering. The device is injected into the uterus by means of a tubular member 34 within which the device is located with the arms 20 in abutting relationship with the beads 28 at the mouth of the tubular member, the extension 26 being received in a hollow piston 40 which slides within member 34. The member 34 is placed at the cervix and piston 40 moved upwardly to expel the device into the uterus, a collar 36 preventing entry of the member 34 beyond the cervix. As the device is expelled from the tubular member, the arms spring apart so that the beads 28 engage the uterus adjacent the fallopian tubes. The extension 26 remains within the endocerincal canal to facilitate withrawal of the device. Reference has been directed by the comptroller to Specifications 1288822 and 1308823.</p> |
