The apparatus has a channel-shaped washing trough (1), oriented upwards at an angle, in which is arranged a conveyor screw (2), which is driven by a motor (4) via gears (3). At the bottom end of the washing trough (1) is arranged a feed funnel (5). Water is fed through nozzles (6) to the washing trough (1), which water can discharge again through a discharge (8) in the feed funnel (5). At the top end of the washing trough (1) is arranged a recess (11) beneath which is located a screen (12). The residues are charged into the funnel (5), subjected to turbulence in the washing trough (1) and washed out and ejected through the recess (11) and separated by the screen (12) according to particle size. <IMAGE>
